‘Elevator Programme’ – Songs of Charisma

The hallmark of outstanding managers is the ability to present themselves with confidence, impact and presence – i.e. with charisma.

This was the message that Voice and Performance coach Wizard Paul Ogden conveyed to 40 graduates on the Hilton Group Elevator Programme induction course. He used harmony singing, voice, performance and movement exercises in order to help the graduates:

Paul worked initially with the entire group, getting them to do a series of singing exercises interspersed with conversations about communication.

He then split them into three groups in which they were challenged to work as a team to create a two minute jingle to inspire the other groups about the benefits of taking part in the elevator programme. The jingle had to capture and convey the whole mood, sense, smell, taste and passion of working for such a dynamic international business.

“The jingle exercise was a unique opportunity to get the group to start working as a team and to also get an early insight into the team dynamics.”

“The Wizards were a recommendation from a colleague who had worked with them and been very impressed. The voice performance morning was competitive, fun and entertaining. The graduates didn’t know what had hit them, they really enjoyed it.

Paul’s approach was warm, expressive and very impactful.

The result was that the group worked and had fun together and by the end there was definitely a bond between them. They will now approach the business differently, and, when presenting or communicating with different audiences, will be aware of the importance of how they come across.

This refreshing approach to improving communication skills is something I would definitely do again and I believe it would work across the organisation with people of all levels.”
